Peargirl Knits Patterns. I love Fairies and have a lot of fairy art in my house. Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies are among my favorites. As the story goes, Flower Fairies are tiny creatures that live in gardens, grassy meadows, and on the edge of distant marshes. When a seed sprouts, a Flower Fairy baby is born, living in their chosen flower. As the flower grows, the fairy grows too. Each is in charge of looking after their flower or plant, keeping it strong and healthy by making sure it has plenty of sunshine and water, sweeping away dead leaves, and polishing flowers and stems. The Flower Fairies are named for Titania, the Queen of the Fairies in medieval folklore. They are knit in one piece, except for the arms, legs and wings. Using small amounts of any worsted yarn, it is a great way to use up your stash. Size : All of the Flower Fairies are approximately 6” from tip of hat to toe. Materials: Any worsted yarn, small amounts left over from other projects work well. Experiment with colors for flowers and skin tones. You’ll need Green for each fairy, as well as a Skin Tone color. See individual flowers for other colors needed. ? A small amount of Black embroidery thread or fine yarn is needed for eyes. ? Needles ~ 3.75mm (#5 US) double point needles (DPN), and 3.50mm (#4 US) DPN’s ? Locking Stitch Markers ~ for holding live stitches. ? Stitch Marker ~ to mark beginning of round. I use a small coilless safety pin and pin it below the needles, rather than on the needles, moving it as the need arises. ? Tapestry needle ~ for weaving in ends, stitching eyes and making French knots. ? Small amount of clean, carded wool for stuffing head and abdomen. Gauge : Gauge is not crucial, but the stitches should be tight enough so that the stuffing doesn’t show thru.
