Hasbro Star Wars Episode I Electronic CommTech Reader. Released in 1998, this device allows users to hear character dialogue from The Phantom Menace by scanning special CommTech chips that came with the action figures.
The reader was designed to resemble the commlink used by Jedi characters in the movie, such as Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
When a CommTech chip is touched to the reader, it plays specific voice clips for that character.
Some figures' chips could also interact with others, playing unique dialogue when scanned in sequence.
