If you are ready to reward your home with this immuneboosting Vitamin C seedling, then Gerald Winters and Son Plants is proud to introduce you to our newest offering – Satsuma Mandarin Tree. Citrus unshiu is a semiseedless and easypeeling citrus species, and was named after Unshu (Wenzhou), a famous production area of mandarin oranges in China, in the late Edo period of Japan. Jesuits brought the fruit from Asia to North America in the 18th century, starting groves in the Jesuit Plantation upriver from New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1878 during the Meiji period, Owari mikans were brought to the United States from the Satsuma Province in Kyushu, Japan, by the spouse of the US Minister to Japan, General Van Valkenburgh, who renamed them satsumas. Between 1908 and 1911 about a million Owari mikan trees were imported throughout the lower Gulf Coast states. The towns of Satsuma, Alabama; Satsuma, Florida; Satsuma, Texas; and Satsuma, Louisiana were named after this fruit. This Starter Tree is grown from seed and is currently between 3'' and 5'' in height above soil. It will continue to grow either outdoor, or indoor when temperatures reach zing temperature. For colder winter months, you can replace direct sunlight with UV Grow Lights with no loss of development. They can vary in size, but are quick growing, so even a smaller plant will be considerably larger in a couple of weeks. Our horticulturists have planted, grown and nurtured our Satsuma Mandarin trees since seed, and have cared for them for a minimum of 4 months. They are well rooted, healthy, and ready to be adopted into your family, to bring you years of joy. Satsumas rarely have any thorns, an attribute that also makes them popular. Each plant is wrapped in bubble wrap to protect against damage in transit. Propagated by Gerald Winters and Son Plants of Bangor, Maine. Adopt one today.
