In 1948, a secret agreement with Czechoslovakia led to the formation of a unique squadron at the Czech Air Force base in Olomouc, aiming to train pilots for the nascent Israeli Air Force. Comprising 22 young men gathered from across Europe, their resilience from wartime and Holocaust experiences fueled their desire to train for Israel's statehood. Today, four of these Olomouc flight course graduates, who proudly wore Israeli and Czech Air Force wings, remain alive.
