As the creator of OCTAGION, I wanted to make a word game that felt fresh — something that combined quick thinking, clever deduction, and that satisfying “aha!” moment when everything clicks. I’ve always loved games that challenge the brain, but I also wanted something fast-paced and social — a game you can play at a family gathering, late-night with friends, or even solo when you just want to stretch your mind. OCTAGION started as a simple idea: what if every letter had both meaning and constraint? The number system emerged from that spark — and suddenly, spelling a word became a puzzle of patterns, speed, and deduction. Watching people’s faces when they realize how tricky (and addictive!) it is to build even simple words without repeating numbers… that’s pure magic. The ironic thing is that you don't need to know how to spell words to play the game. You can write down the challenge word and have it in front of you when building your word. The letters could have just as easily been shapes and symbols. During our testing, we played hundreds of rounds with groups of all ages — families, teachers, puzzle lovers, even self-proclaimed “non-word game people.” The one thing everyone agreed on? Once you’ve played a few rounds, it hooks you fast. It’s easy to learn in minutes, but mastering it takes thought. Sometimes a bit of luck can turn the game on its head. I truly hope OCTAGION brings your family or friend group as much laughter, strategy, and good-natured chaos as it’s brought mine. It’s been incredible to watch a small idea grow into a game that brings people together and gets them thinking in a whole new way. • OCTAGION (rhymes with "contagion”) is a fast-paced word-building challenge that uses a specialized deck of cards, each displaying a letter and a number. The catch? You can’t use more than one card with the same number when spelling out a word.
• The game accommodates any number of players. Play solo against the clock, go head-to-head with friends, or form teams of two or more. Each team uses its own OCTAGION deck, allowing you to divide and conquer: one teammate can sift through the deck for letters, while the other can start placing cards to form the word.
• Gameplay unfolds over eight rounds. At the start of each round, an 8-letter “challenge word” is revealed for all teams to solve. Write down the word and refer to it during the round. Your goal is to form this word with your OCTAGION cards faster than your opponents without repeating any numbers. As the game progresses, it becomes more challenging after wildcards (treatment cards) are used up in earlier rounds. The game is not so much about spelling as it is about deduction and pattern recognition.
• Included with the game are 800 curated words. Don’t be fooled—finding solutions is trickier than it seems, because many words can only be formed just a few ways without incurring penalties. Get ready to test your wits, sharpen your word-building skills, and have a blast with OCTAGION. Be warned—it’s contagious!
