This is a rug vest by the late Isaac Vasquez.
The "Caracol" pattern is a motif that represents reincarnation.
Inspired by the reliefs carved into the ruins of the Zapotec people, their roots, it was woven into the rug. The curves extending in four directions represent birth, growth, death, and rebirth. It has a similar feel to Native American sensibilities, such as the four directions and four balances, and also resembles Ainu patterns.
This is the most basic and popular design, representing the Oaxaca rug vest.
