Here is an excellent example of an ancient tool being damaged during use and then repaired and used again. This was legally found on a village site in Wabash County Indiana in 1969. The celt was nicely polished all over and the but bit edge is still fairly sharp. You can see on the poll end that a chunk had broken off and the rough edge of the break had been ground smooth for re-use.
