As New York City's IRT subway system grew, so did the need for more equipment. This led to the acquisition of 600 low voltage motor cars, with 100 from Pullman and 500 from American Car and Foundry. Additionally, 510 non-powered trailer cars were added between 1916 and 1922. These steel-sided cars, typical of their time, featured rattan seating and dim overhead lighting. Known as LO-V cars, they used a low voltage controller for safety, unlike previous HI-V cars. They served for nearly four decades before being replaced. The RailKing LO-V subway set offers unique transit stop simulation, allowing automatic stops at designated stations and even reversing direction on out-and-back routes. Did You Know? The IRT Division was the first built and uses smaller cars due to its narrower tunnels.
