In 2002, the Israeli Ministry of Defense unveiled the new Merkava MK IV main battle tank. Production began in 2001, with plans to have it in service with the Israel Defense Forces by 2004. The Ministry aimed to manufacture 50 to 70 tanks annually, with estimates suggesting up to 400 could be produced. The Merkava MK IV boasts enhanced armor, gun systems, and electronics, making it slightly larger than its predecessor, the Merkava III Baz. While the Merkava II is exportable, the Merkava IV's systems and components are. This tank can carry eight infantry soldiers, a Command Group, or three litter patients, along with its crew of four. It can fire on the move, demonstrating high hit probability against moving targets and attack helicopters.
