- Easy-Clean Cast-Iron Care: Wash by hand using warm water and a little soap. For stubborn batter, simmer water in the iron before using a pan scraper (after it cools). Dry thoroughly with a paper towel or lint-free cloth—black residue from seasoning is normal and not a problem. Finally, apply a very thin layer of high-smoke-point oil to both the interior and exterior, then wipe off any excess to prevent stickiness (using too much oil can create a sticky surface). Keep dry to prevent rust.
