This 7 x 5” figurine is in MINT condition, no marks, repairs, or blemishes except for minor crazing on the bottom (see photo) which is not unusual for its age. It bears TMK #2 (Stylized Bee) having been produced Circa 1959-1969. Master sculptor Reinhold Unger designed this in 1935 and is one of the original pieces displayed at the Leipzig Fair in 1935. It was originally titled “The little shepherd” and “Evensong.
Being a Nun, Sister Maria was very religious. Many of her drawings (and therefore Hummel figurines) reflect her faith. Here we have two children sitting on a fence at a trailside shrine with the boy playing a horn to two sheep. Wow, so detailed and colorful!
