Rare portrait of young Princess Huang Thi Thé, daughter of Dé Tham, who fought against French colonial rule in Tonkin from the 1880s until her assassination in 1913, serving as a soldier, group leader, and ultimately the sole chief. Following her father's death, she was adopted as a princess of French Indochina and later emerged as a leader in the anti-colonial movement. Her influence was such that French authorities feared she might become the new figurehead of the anti-colonial movement in Indochina.
