Bio Balls are used as filter media in gravity waterfall filters and pressurized filters. Bio Balls efficiently process more harmful organic fish waste or plant material than other popular filter materials. The key to the effectiveness of Bio Balls is their unique geometric shape. Each 1.5" Bio Ball has over 18. 2 square inches of beneficial enzymes and Bio Colonies cultivating surface area. Lava rock is a readily available material often used as filter media. The biggest drawbacks to lava rock is that is slimes over, loses its effectiveness and requires frequent cleaning. Bio Balls won't slime over, lose effectiveness and require significantly less maintenance. The spherical shape and precise peg placement allows them to pack into any shape or filter without losing surface area. Molded from high density plastic, these balls are lightweight but tough enough to keep their shape and will never degrade or wear out. Bio balls can be used loose or in the mesh bag.
