A microphone whether dynamic or condenser is always exposed to any air movement that goes alongside the sound. The wind from train travel, travel speed or weather factors, but also the simple air flow generated by the motion of the microphone, can create strong gurgling that ruins the audio recording. Even the breath of the speaker near the microphone can create "thumbs". The windshield absorbs the wind, thus preventing it from reaching the microphone capsule. For external recordings, an eco-fur windshield is particularly suitable, which keeps frequent wind noise away from the microphone.
