Foundations of nRF Zephyr RTOS C Programming: Using the nRF Connect SDK

This is one of a series of workbooks on Zephyr RTOS application developmentIt is for software developers needing an introduction to working with Zephyr RTOS on resource constrained embedded systems such as ARM Cortex M4 and M7 processors. This volume is for developers working with Nordic Semiconductor microcontrollers. The target board used is the nRF52840-DK, however, the examples should work on of other boards using nRF microcontrollers.Most of the examples are based on common embedded systems bare metal examples (both single and multi-tasking) as well as examples (samples) in the Zephyr SDK and the nRF Connect SDK (which adds examples for Nordic Semiconductor devices). The IDE used is VSCode with the nRF Connect SDK extensions.The first part of the book covers the implementation of the standard examples used for demonstrating bare metal programming running on the Zephyr RTOS main thread which is present by default when Zephyr projects are built. The second part of the book introduces multithreaded programming and IPC using mutexes and semaphores.Other books in the embedded systems series will include versions of this book for other microcontrollers such as STM32, NXP and Silabs microcontrollers. Workbooks, focusing on communications application development using protocols such as BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), WiFi and LTE (Long Term Evolution) are planned for follow on books in this series of workbooks.
