"Emergence: Emily Dickinson" is a wonderful recital of songs, all settings of the works of American poet Emily Dickinson. Combining the broad spectrum of her output from the most prosaic (recipes, epigrammatic response, prayer) to the deepest poetical themes (death, love, nature, eternity, spirituality), these songs provide wonderful connections between the often-compartmentalized parts of her work, and is a valuable survey of her varied literary forms. Devised, curated, and performed by Nadine Benjamin (soprano) and Nicole Panizza (piano), the album combines existing and premiere compositions by Copland, Hall, Zaninelli, Glickman, and Jarman-Pinto. The charismatic performances of Benjamin and Panizza act as powerful advocates for the American art song genre, firmly reinforcing it's critical importance in the Anglo-American musical and literary performance realms.
