Kit Includes: This kit contains one High-Speed Steel (HSS) NPT Pipe Tap and one matching HSS Round Die, providing a comprehensive solution for threading and rethreading tasks. Also called pipe taps, high-speed steel NPT pipe taps are designed for creating new threads or cleaning and re-threading damaged or jammed pipe threads. They are suitable for threading a wide range of materials, both ferrous and non-ferrous. The nominal size of a pipe tap corresponds to the pipe fitting being tapped rather than the actual size of the tap. Featuring a thread taper of 3/4 inch per foot, all pipe taps come with a 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 thread chamfer. Since NPT threads are not self-sealing, the use of a sealer such as Teflon tape or pipe compound is required. The High-Speed Steel Round Die is designed for making new threads or rethreading existing ones. Its combination of hardness and toughness ensures excellent wear resistance, making it suitable for general-purpose applications. The die is chamfered on both faces: one side with a 2 to 3-thread chamfer for standard threading and the other with a 1 to 1-1/2-thread chamfer for threading close to a shoulder. Adjustments can be made with a fine-pitch screw, which allows the die to expand or contract as needed. The beveled slot enables easy adjustment when used in a machine holder, providing enhanced precision and usability.
