Level up your Amateur Radio Astronomy or Weather Satellite Reception with this DIY Deep-Sky Dish kit by R3 Radio Research. The Deep-Sky Dish Kit by R3 Radio Research provides the DIY kit components to enhance your Hydrogen Line or other Discovery Dish observations by up to 6.6 dB with an improved 1.5m diameter parabolic reflector. The Deep-Sky Dish kit leverage a cost-effective DIY conversion of an 1800W Solar Cookers parabolic reflector unit to provide unparalleled amateur radio observation capabilities at unbelievably low cost similar to that of the Discovery Dish 0.7m apertures. The Deep-Sky Dish Kit is utilizes the same Discovery Feed units leveraged by Discovery Dish and is compatible with ALL Kraken RF Discovery Feeds including the H-Line, Inmarsat, L-Band Weather Satellite, and S-Band variants. Kit Includes: 1x Deep-Sky Dish Base Adapter for 1" ID PVC Feed Extension (PETG) 1x Deep-Sky Dish 1" Schedule 40 ID PVC to 20mm OD Fiberglass Boom Adapter for Discovery Feeds (PETG) 1x 25 cm Length 1" PVC Pipe Section (for feed extension) 12x M4-0.7x10mm Round Head Hex Drive Screws (Stainless Steel) 12x M4-0.7 Square Nuts (Stainless Steel) 6x 1/4-20 x 1-1/2" Hex Head Bolts (Stainless Steel) 6x 1/4" x 1" Fender washers (Stainless Steel) 6x 1/4"-20 Nylock Nuts (Stainless Steel) 1x M4-0.7x16mm Wing Bolt (Stainless Steel) 1x M10-1.5X30MM Hex Bolt (Stainless Steel) - replaces stock wingnut azimuth lock Bring Your Own (Not Included): 1.5m Solar Cooker Discovery Feed(s) Guidance on Feed Distance from Reflector: Discovery Dish fails to disclose the most crucial operational parameters for Discovery Feeds. Deep-Sky Dish provides a reference starting point. Deep-Sky Dish should have Discovery Feeds installed with the 140mm measuring mark aligned to the feed-side edge of the boom diameter adapter when using the included 25 cm 1" PVC extension tube aligned with the base chamfer stop points as shown in the instruction manual photos. Real-World Testing of Improved Performance: The Designers can attest that performance improvement of ~6 dB was observed with Deep-Sky Dish when receiving GOES-16 at ~45° elevation angle across 5 unique dish units when compared to multiple Discovery Dishes. Average SNR in HRIT demodulation using SatDump improved from ~5 dB to ~11 dB for consistent decoding of GOES broadcasts with high margin, a strong testament to the similar f/D of Discovery Dish and the converted solar cookers lending itself to equalized feed performance between the 2 apertures as 6 dB improvement closely aligns with 20*LOG10(1.5/0.7) = 6.6 dB theoretically possible improvement from the increase in dish aperture size.
