Standard duct components come in 5' lengths. When you want a length of duct that is shorter than 5', measure the overall span and cut the full length pipe 4" shorter than the desired span. Then slide the raw end of the duct inside the adjustable nipple to the desired length. The o-ring then slides onto the cut pipe to make the rolled end. Use the duct clamp over the rolled edge of the nipple and the o-ring.
