Design:
The obverse (front) of the coin features a profile of Dwight D. Eisenhower, designed by Frank Gasparro. The reverse (back) initially depicted a stylized image of the Apollo 11 insignia, showing an eagle landing on the moon, with the Earth visible above.
Composition:
Most Eisenhower Dollars are made of a copper-nickel clad composition (75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center), though some proof and special issues were struck in 40% silver.
Significance:
The Eisenhower Dollar was the first U.S. dollar coin issued since the Peace Dollar in 1935 and honored both President Eisenhower and the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Value:
While most circulated Eisenhower Dollars are worth their face value, certain varieties or coins in pristine, uncirculated condition can command higher prices among collectors.
